IBRAF advances strategic partnership with South Sudan through high-level meetings in Juba

During a recent official visit to Juba, the capital of South Sudan, Professor João Bosco Monte, Founder and President of the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), held a series of high-level strategic meetings, reinforcing IBRAF’s commitment to expanding cooperation initiatives with the country. The agenda included meetings with Vice President and Chair of the Economic Cluster James Wani Igga; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abdelbagi Hussein Akol, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba.
Discussions focused primarily on the expansion of technical and vocational training programs, with particular emphasis on the Youth Technical Training Program (YTTP). Led by IBRAF, the program provides specialized training opportunities for African youth in sectors where Brazil has recognized expertise, including agriculture and rural development, information technology, health, infrastructure, and the creative industries.
South Sudanese authorities expressed strong interest in deepening cooperation with Brazil, underscoring the importance of initiatives such as the YTTP as effective tools for human capital development in the country.
During the meetings, Professor João Bosco Monte reaffirmed IBRAF’s commitment to supporting long-term, structured professional training processes in South Sudan. “South Sudan has shown strong determination to strengthen its technical capacity and invest in its youth. For IBRAF, it is an honor to work alongside a country that views professional training as a strategic pathway to development,” he stated.
Preparations are already underway for the next edition of the YTTP, scheduled for March 2026, which will bring a group of South Sudanese young professionals to Brazil for specialized training in goat farming and the sorghum value chain—sectors identified by the local government as national priorities.
Across all meetings, both sides emphasized their shared commitment to developing continuous technical training programs capable of addressing the country’s needs and creating long-term opportunities. The next phase of discussions will be led by the technical teams of the Vice Presidency, the relevant ministries, and IBRAF, with a focus on the implementation of future initiatives.
The visit to Juba was carried out with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Addis Ababa, which is also responsible for Brazil’s relations with South Sudan, strengthening institutional and diplomatic coordination for the advancement of partnerships. The mission also benefited from the operational support of Brazil’s Honorary Consul in Juba, Mrs. Maria Lotua, whose contribution was essential to the success of the activities.
“This visit strengthens IBRAF’s strategic agenda for institutional cooperation and advances the development of new phases of the YTTP. We leave South Sudan with a clear understanding of the partnership’s potential and the conviction that there is significant room for high-impact initiatives,” emphasized the President of IBRAF.
