Pre-Summit: IBRAF and IFAD to boost joint initiatives on protecting rural people

IBRAF’s President Prof. João Bosco Monte met with IFAD’s President Dr. Gilbert Houngbo, Tuesday 27th, in Rome, Italy, at the sidelines of the 2021 Food Systems Pre-Summit.

“IFAD has been a close partner of IBRAF for the past few years and this is due to our commitment in empowering rural people with skills to fight poverty and protect food systems, finding sinergies with its mission. It is always a great opportunity for us to discuss possibilities of cooperation and joint initiatives”, states Prof. Joãos Bosco Monte.

IBRAF and IFAD are partnering at the moment to strengthen the Rural Solutions Portal and IFAD’s IT tracking systems to increase the uptake of rural development solutions. The portal is a web-based knowledge-sharing platform that collects rural development solutions. These are innovations, technologies, processes and methodologies for the rural world. It is a platform available for anyone interested to consult.

During the meeting, Prof. João Bosco Monte formally invited Dr. Gilbert Houngbo to be a speaker in Brazil Africa Forum 2021, to be held virtually on November 23 and 24.

At BAF 2020, Dr. Houngbo participated in a special interview on IFAD’s response to the Covid-19, focusing on alleviating hunger in a global scale and securing support for smallholder farmers.

In Rome, Prof. João Bosco Monte also met with FAO Director-General QU Dongyu.

Prof. João Bosco Monte is a Champion of the UN Food Systems Summit Champions Network. At the Pre-Summit he will be delivering the final remarks in the panel “Regional Pathways to Transform Food Systems”.
