Launching exhibition about Nelson Mandela from the Apartheid Museum for the first time in Brazil

It is open for the first time in Brazil the exhibition Mandela: From Prisoner to President, coming from the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg to Fortaleza city. Hosted at the Dragão do Mar Cultural Center, the exhibit was launched with the presence of the Ambassador of South Africa to Brazil – Joseph Mashimbye, Deputy Governor of the State of Ceara – Izolda Cela, Secretary of Culture of the State of Ceara – Fabiano Piúba, Director of the Apartheid Museum – Christopher Till, President of the Dragão do Mar Institute – Paulo Linhares and the President of the Brazil Africa Institute – João Bosco Monte.

The exhibition presents Mandela’s life divided into six phases: “The Person,” “The Comrade,” “The Leader,” “The Prisoner,” “The Negotiator,” and “The Man of State.” 52 panels with photos and videos build on the narrative from the start of Mandela’s activism against the racist regime of the South African government until the election as the first president elected democratically in South Africa.

The exhibition is curated by the Apartheid Museum and was conceived in 2008. It has already been seen in France, Sweden, the United States, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru and Luxembourg by more than one million people. On 2018, year of the Mandela’s centennial, the international tour of the exhibit includes Brazil, Canada, Ireland and England.

Exhibition Mandela: from Prisoner to President is held in Fortaleza by the Brazil Africa Institute, Apartheid Museum and Nelson Mandela Foundation, with support of the Dragão do Mar Cultural Center, Dragão do Mar Institute and Aldairton Carvalho Advocacy Society and sponsorship of the Government of the State of Ceara via Secretary of Culture. Visits until July 30th, free entrance.
