“Brazil can not lose sight of Africa” says president of the Brazil Africa Institute

“Africa is going to be the one leading the path for development in the next years and Brazil can not lose sight of the opportunities to come in the continent” said the president of the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), Prof. João Bosco Monte, at the sidelines of the 32nd summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this Monday (11th).

Prof. Bosco Monte reinforced that the newly Brazilian government needs to set up its foreign policy urgently. “Brazil has ceased to be an important player in the field in the past few years. We do not have any international agenda, particularly with Africa, that brings the country to the protagonism again. At the same time that all the world’s big economies are looking to Africa, Brazilian government needs to reopen the lost space for the relations with the continent”.

Fulfilling a two days agenda in Addis Ababa, Prof. Bosco Monte is going to meet with senior officials of the Afreximbank, Rockefeller Foundation, NEPAD Agency and with the Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union “to show IBRAF’s commitment, through the Brazil Africa Forum 2019, to strengthening ties with the African continent”, said.

The Brazil Africa Forum 2019 will be held on November 12th and 13th in the city of São Paulo. Under the main theme “Food security: path to economic growth” the BAF is going to bring together governments, organizations and the private sector to develop effective plans that are economically viable, socially fair and ecologically correct to contribute for a zero hunger world.
