IBRAF discusses cooperation initiatives with the government of the United Arab Emirates
The president of the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), Professor João Bosco Monte, was received on Monday 29th by the Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), H. E. Reem Al Hashimy. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi, was aimed at discussing important cooperation initiatives between IBRAF and the UAE government.
During the meeting, two main agendas were discussed between the leaders: the promotion and improvement of collaboration in Portuguese-speaking African countries and the support for capacity building programs on the African continent, both in sectors of mutual interest.
The areas covered by the cooperation actions include agriculture (technical training and technology transfer), training programs, entrepreneurship, health training, sustainability and the environment, technology and innovation, food security and public policies and governance.
They also discussed the next steps for the implementation of the Youth Technical Training Program (YTTP), which will count on the partnership of the UAE government. The program, run by IBRAF since 2017, aims to train young African professionals in technical areas in which Brazil has expertise. Minister Reem stressed the importance of training young African professionals and expressed the UAE government’s interest in collaborating with the program.
Agenda of the UAE government in Brazil
During Monday’s audience, Minister Reem Al Hashimy suggested to Professor João Bosco Monte that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) be signed between the Brazil Africa Institute and the UAE government, focusing on capacity building projects. The agreement should take place during the visit to Brazil of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in November, when he will take part in the G20 Heads of State Summit.
Another point highlighted at the meeting was the participation of high-level UAE authorities in the Brazil Africa Forum 2024. Held by IBRAF, the event will take place on October 14 and 15 in São Paulo, bringing together heads of state, government authorities, representatives of international development agencies, financial institutions, private sector leaders and members of civil society.
