Brazil Africa Institute president highlights collaboration at global think tank roundtable
Professor João Bosco Monte, Founder and President of the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), participated in the first Trends Research and Advisory Global Round Table Series titled “Unlocking the Potential of Think Tanks: New Ideas and Innovative Strategies for Impactful Engagement”. The event was held from 15-16 July 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa.
His participation included a speech focusing on investment in training and programs to enhance the research capabilities of think tanks. He argued that this investment is essential for driving economic and social development in vulnerable communities. He provided an example of this commitment by mentioning the Youth Technical Training Program (YTTP), created by the Brazil Africa Institute in 2017. “Investing in training and programs to enhance the research capabilities of think tanks is essential for driving economic and social development in vulnerable communities,” Professor João Bosco Monte said.
“Programs like the YTTP exemplify this commitment by fostering professional development among young professionals from African countries. By leveraging Brazil’s world-renowned expertise in sectors such as agriculture, health, information technology, infrastructure, and the creative industry, it equips participants with the critical knowledge, skills, and technologies they need.”
He also stressed the importance of building collaborative networks among think tanks across the Global South, specifically mentioning Brazil, the Middle East and Africa, to exchange knowledge and innovative practices. “Building collaborative networks between think tanks across the global south is essential for exchanging knowledge and innovative practices in the Middle East, Africa, and Brazil,” the president of IBRAF remarked.
“Initiatives like joint research projects and academic exchanges, such as the partnership between the Brazil Africa Institute and Trends Research & Advisory, highlight the power of cooperation. Through these efforts, we can harness our shared expertise to tackle mutual challenges and develop sustainable solutions that uplift all our communities,” he concluded.
