Brazil Africa Institute and Trends Research & Advisory sign MoU for technical and scientific cooperation

The ambassador of Brazil to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Sidney Leon Romeiro, took part in the ceremony.

The president of the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), Professor João Bosco Monte, and the CEO of Trends Research & Advisory, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday (April 1) establishing technical and scientific cooperation between the two institutions. The ambassador of Brazil to the United Arab Emirates, Sidney Leon Romeiro, took part in the ceremony.

The document covers collaborative research and studies on topics such as food security, climate change, migration and cyber security, as well as the facilitation of conferences, seminars and workshops. “Brazil and the United Arab Emirates share the same goal of strengthening cooperation with Africa. Both countries have a robust commitment with South-South cooperation and development assistance in most of the developing world, specially Africa”, stated the Ambassador Sidney Leon Romeiro.

The signing ceremony took place at Trends Research & Advisory headquarters in Abu Dhabi and fosters new horizons between the two entities, specially with regard to relations between Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. In March this year, Trends Research & Advisory opened its third office on the African continent, in Cape Town.

“The signing of this agreement is extremely important, as IBRAF is the first institution in Latin America to enter into a partnership with Trends Research & Advisory. In this way, we join forces with a renowned international research center, highlighting the crucial need for inter-institutional cooperation,” said the president of the Brazil Africa Institute, Professor João Bosco Monte.

According to the CEO of Trends Research & Advisory, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, the memorandum marks a major step for the institution in strengthening global research partnerships. “The agreement enables the exchange of experiences and insights on various issues of common interest, particularly the burgeoning focus on the African continent, which have garnered substantial global attention. We commend the Brazil Africa Institute’s pivotal role in this endeavor, recognizing its invaluable contribution to advancing collaborative efforts in addressing pressing challenges”, said Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali.

Global Dialogue
On the sidelines of the signing event, a significant dialogue unfolded as part of the Trend’s Global Dialogue initiative. IBRAF’s president, Professor João Bosco Monte, and the ambassador of Brazil to the United Arab Emirates, Sidney Leon Romeiro, discussed the pivotal role of scientific research in international relations. They highlighted how cooperation between Brazil and African nations serves as a cornerstone for fostering stronger South-South partnerships.

According to Ambassador Sidney Romeiro, Brazil has a historic relationship with African countries. “Its experience with cooperation programs, especially in capacity-building and agriculture technology, makes it a natural partner for countries that intend to further engage with assistance programs for development”, concluded the Brazilian Ambassador.
