Brazil Africa Forum 2024 to gather authorities and business leaders in São Paulo
The 12th edition of the Brazil Africa Forum will take place on October 14 and 15. Organized by the Brazil Africa Institute, the event’s central theme for 2024 is “Infrastructure Investment to Boost Sustainable Development in Brazil and Africa.” The opening ceremony will feature a keynote speech by Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chancellor Mauro Vieira.
As the main platform for dialogue between Brazilian and African leaders on contemporary global issues, the Brazil Africa Forum will also include João Bosco Monte, president of the Brazil Africa Institute, alongside key figures such as Carlos Lopes, honorary professor at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance, Faculty of Commerce, University of Cape Town; Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Enio Verri, Brazilian Director-General of Itaipu Binacional; Ibraimo Abdul Carimo Issufo Ibraimo, founding partner of Ernst and Young in Mozambique and former Executive Committee President of BCI and Moza Banco; Maria Auxiliadora Figueiredo, Ambassador and Deputy Secretary for International Relations of São Paulo City Hall; Miguel Azevedo, Head of Investment Banking for the Middle East and Africa at Citi; Mônica Monteiro, Executive Advisor to the President of Times CNBC Brazil and Brazilian President of the BRICS Business Women Alliance; Paulo Gomes, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Southeast Asia-Africa Chamber of Commerce; Paulo Protasio, Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Authority of the Government of Rio de Janeiro; Maria Tereza Umbelino, Founder and President of the BMV Group; Luiz Lessa, President of the Bank of the Amazon; Natália Dias, Advisory Board Member at Din4amo Venture Building; Otaviano Canuto, former Vice President and Executive Director of the World Bank Group; and Zemedeneh Negatu, Global Chairman of Fairfax Africa Fund.
These distinguished figures will participate in panels addressing a wide range of economic sectors, such as “Agribusiness: Challenges and Logistical Solutions for Production in Brazil and Africa,” “Renewable Energy: A Fundamental Pillar for Building a Sustainable Energy Future,” “Public-Private Partnerships: A Strategic Tool for Infrastructure Investments,” and “Artificial Intelligence: Driving Digital and Financial Inclusion,” all taking place on Monday, October 14. On October 15, the discussions will cover topics like “Perspectives and Opportunities Between Brazil and Africa,” “The Future of Mining: Global Perspectives and Local Challenges,” “A Changing Climate: Responses from the Global South,” “Sustainable Prosperity: Strategic Governance to Boost Infrastructure Investment in Africa” (organized by TRENDS Research & Advisory), and “The Role of Financial Institutions in Infrastructure Investment and Development.”
“The Brazil Africa Forum fosters partnerships, new business opportunities, and collaboration among partners from Brazil, Africa, and other regions,” says João Bosco Monte. “In 2024, the event will once again achieve the success of previous years, bringing together various heads of state, government officials, representatives of development agencies, financial institutions, and leaders from the private sector and civil society,” concludes the president and event organizer.
