The Brazil Africa Institute opens exhibition about Nelson Mandela in Curitiba with free admission until april

The exhibition “Mandela: Global Icon of Reconciliation” has officially opened to the public in Curitiba and will remain on display until April 30, 2026, with free admission. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, global human rights leader, symbol of justice and reconciliation, and the first Black president of South Africa.
An official opening ceremony for invited guests was held last Monday, bringing together public authorities, institutional representatives, partners, and guests who attended the launch of the exhibition in the capital of the state of Paraná.
Among those present were João Bosco Monte, President of the Brazil Africa Institute; Christopher Till, curator of the exhibition; Enio Verri, Brazilian Director-General of Itaipu Binacional; Tadeu Veneri, Federal Deputy; Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Marli Teixeira, Curitiba’s Municipal Secretary for Women and Ethnic-Racial Equality; and Marino Galvão, President of the Curitiba Cultural Foundation.
The exhibition presents different moments from Nelson Mandela’s life and public service, highlighting his decisive leadership in the struggle against apartheid and his central role in South Africa’s historic process of national reconciliation. Widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and dialogue, Mandela remains one of the most inspiring figures in modern history.
By bringing together historical materials, images, and information about Mandela’s journey, the exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on values such as tolerance, respect, social justice, and the importance of building bridges between peoples and cultures.
The exhibition is hosted at the Municipal Museum of Art (MuMA), located within the Portão Cultural Complex in Curitiba.
