João Bosco Monte

João Bosco Monte is a leading authority on Brazil-Africa relations. As the founder and president of the Brazil Africa Institute, he has dedicated his career to encouraging dialogue and collaboration between Brazil and the African continent. Holding a Ph.D. in Education from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) and postdoctoral credentials from the University of Brasília (UnB), his research delves into African continental integration and the dynamics of South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

A respected scholar and educator, he has been a visiting professor at renowned universities in Brazil and Africa, guiding academic discourse on international partnerships. He is also a Senior International Associate at the Center for African, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies (CALACS) at Jindal Global University in India. His expertise extends beyond academia, as he actively advises governments, organizations, and private-sector entities as an international consultant.

João Bosco Monte is a prolific author, contributing to books and publications on trade, development, and the evolving role of the BRICS in global governance. His commitment to food security as a pillar of sustainable development led to his invitation to the UN Food Systems Summit in 2020, where he advocated for inclusive policies responding to global concerns.

His impact has been widely recognized. In both 2018 and 2023, he was awarded the Order of Rio Branco, Brazil’s highest diplomatic honor, for his distinguished contributions to international relations. A sought-after commentator, he frequently shares insights with leading Brazilian and global media outlets. He is also a member of the academic and scientific board at TRENDS Research & Advisory, contributing to high-level policy discussions.

In addition to his work on international cooperation, he currently serves as the Secretary for International and Institutional Relations for the City of Fortaleza, where he spearheads initiatives to strengthen global partnerships and enhance the city’s international presence.

João Bosco Monte is the founder and general coordinator of the Brazil Africa Forum, a premier platform uniting leaders from government, business, and academia to drive impactive partnerships between Brazil, Africa, and other geographies.


Founder and current President of Brazil Africa Institute, he holds a Ph.D. in Education from the Federal University of Ceará and Postdoctoral studies from the University of Brasilia (UNB), with the object of research on the integration of the African continent.

He is a visiting Professor of important Brazilian and African Universities and he is a Senior International Associate of African, Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center - CALACs of Jindal Global University (India). Prof. João Bosco Monte is also the author of books and publications related to the relations between the various international actors, focusing on South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

He acts as an international consultant for Brazilian and foreign organizations and as a columnist and commentator for relevant media outlets in Brazil.

In 2020 Professor Monte was invited to join the UN Food Systems Champions Network, speaking globally on the needs to ensure food security as a way to achieve sustainable development.

In 2018 he was admitted as Comendador da Ordem de Rio Branco, a prestigious award of the Brazilian Government, in recognition for his merits achieved on the promotion of the relations between Brazil and Africa.

He was a Brazilian delegate to the 2013 edition of the Academic Forum of the BRICS.
