Brazil hosts first Americas Ministerial Conference on Green Economy
The first Americas Regional Ministerial Conference on Green Economy will be held on June 24, 25 and 26 in the city of Fortaleza, capital of the Ceara State, in Brazil. The summit is organized by the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), with support from the Government of Ceara and in partnership with the United Nations Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
The conference has already confirmed presences of representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Barbados, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico and Panama.

The main objective of the Conference is to create an open forum and to promote the dissemination of knowledge about trends and opportunities on the way to advancing the Green Economy agenda in the Americas. The event also serves as a strategic network to give visibility to already successful cases of green technology investments, as well as being a platform for networking and practical exchanges of solutions and experiences in the region.
The three focus areas are: promoting innovative green investment through public-private partnerships, improving regulatory and policy frameworks for de-risking green investment, and advancing national-level capacity development for holistic green economy action.
To set up logistical needs for the conference, the Chief of the UNOSSC for the Arab States, Europe and CIS, Edem Bakhshish, fulfilled a two-days agenda in Fortaleza. “The most important is to discuss solutions and not only the problems of the region, so when they leave the Conference they come back home prepared to implement a transition to Green Economy”, said Mr. Bakhshish after the visit to the venue.
The 2019 Americas Regional Ministerial Conference on Green Economy is a follow-up to the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) in response to requests from participating countries and institutional partners to bring Green Economy solutions closer to regional contexts. The event is part of the international circuit of five Regional Ministerial Conferences held by WGEO and UNOSSC in 2019.
